Part escape room. Part murder mystery. An evening you live inside.
The Premise
Most mystery experiences hand you a script. You play your role, the twists unfold on cue, the room applauds, and you go home. This is the other kind. You arrive into a world that has its own laws and its own secrets - and a question only the people in the room can answer together.
By the end of the night you will have solved things with your hands. You will have walked across the room to ask a stranger something only their team could know. You will have held an envelope and learned something about the world that no one else has learned exactly the same way you did.
How An Evening Unfolds
You belong to a team. Multiple teams gather each evening, and each one comes with its own knowledge, its own way of seeing the world, its own questions. Some of what you're trying to figure out, your team already understands. Some of it, only another team can answer.
The evening pulls you toward each other - not because you're told to mingle, but because you need each other to understand what's happening. Conversations have stakes. Discoveries land in your hands. The room becomes a place where something is actually happening, and you are part of why.
At the end, you decide together what should be done.
Custom Mysteries
At Mystery Room, we also help bring your imagination to life. The texture of the night can come from anywhere - a world you've always wanted to step inside, the inside jokes of the people who'll be there, an adventure you've envisioned and wanted to bring to life. Most evenings are some mix of all of it. By the time the night begins, it already belongs to you.
Why have your friends watch a movie for your birthday when you could put them inside one?
Tell us who's coming. We'll write with you and bring it to life.
The Work That Led Here
A full-evening collaborative puzzle built around an original fictional world. Guests received a scientist's scattered case files and pieced together the story as a community. Every detail rewarded curiosity. People played for hours without being told to.
Three expedition teams enter a sealed temple built by a long-lost civilization - and slowly realize that every symbol they translate is pulling something closer to the surface. By the final hour, the room has to reach a unanimous decision about a thing that was never meant to be uncovered.
A magical-school-themed board game night. The name is a wink. The theming liberates people from their adult social armor. You can't be guarded when the room has been dressed for a school of witchcraft.
The Philosophy
Movies give you the experience of someone else having an interesting adventure.
Mystery Room is the inversion. The mystery is yours to investigate. The decisions and consequences are yours. You are your own protagonists. The people you see with you - are your allies - or your adversaries.
In these stories, you choose the end. And live with the consequences.
"I know for a fact if I had a choice where I could just know that - oh my god, on Tuesday I get to experience a sci-fi murder mystery with a couple strangers, make some friends, and then come back home and just relax - that would be a dream come true."
